Description:

This is an excellent example of a fairly scarce, early WWII Savage Arms Corp., production 1928A1 Auto Ordnance Thompson submachine gun. This model is the wartime version of the original Auto-Ordnance design, as originally under a US Government contract that was subsequently overhauled by the US Army. This specific weapon still has some of the traditional features that were so easily recognizable in the Gangster movies and as used throughout WWII. This fine example has a mix of early and late features such as; ported compensator on the end of the barrel, the short 10 1/2 inch barrel without cooling fins, the horizontal grip, the detachable buttstock, with the wartime fixed "L" type rear sight. The receiver is marked with "US MODEL OF 1928 A1/ NO. S-469531" and farther back "THOMPSON SUBMACHINE GUN/ CALIBER .45 AUTOMATIC CARTRIDGE. The obverse is marked in two-lines "AUTO-ORDNANCE CORPORATION, BRIDGEPORT COMM." The top of the receiver is marked with the "Thompson Bullet" logo. The underside of the lower frame is also numbered "469531".

Rating Definition:

Very good as arsenal reparkerized overall with areas of fine pitting present under the parkerizing on top of the receiver and on the side of the lower receiver/trigger group housing. The markings are still clear and distinct. The buttstock, forend and pistol grip are all very good with a nice light brown color overall, showing some heavier gouges on the side of the pistol grip. A solid representative example of a Savage Arms produced, WWII Thompson SMG. Mechanically needs minor work as the safety retention spring is weak. NOTE: This item is currently registered with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco Firearms and Explosives, as a National Firearms Act (NFA) weapon, which has been classified as a Curios or Relic as defined in 27 CFR, 478.11. These weapons are still subject to the provisions of 18 U.S.C. Chapter 44 and 27 CFR part 478.
