Manufactured in 1962 and 1963 in response to public demand for small caliber, high velocity handguns, only 3300 of these pistols were made. Built on the frame and action of a Ruger flattop single action revolver with a rotating breechblock in place of the cylinder. Ramp blade front sight on the barrel with an adjustable rear notch sight. Barrel drilled and tapped for scope mounts. Barrel marked "RUGER HAWKEYE./WIN. .256 MAG. CAL.". Standard receiver markings, smooth grips with black eagle Ruger medallions.
