Manufactured from 1857 to 1860. This is one of the finest examples known of the 5th Avariation of the so-called 1st, 1st revolvers. The top of the barrel rib marked "SMITH & WESSON SPRINGFIELD MASS." and the cylinder is marked with the 1855, '59 and '60 patent dates. The revolver has a brass blade front and notch rear sights, the frame is silver plated while the remaining parts were blue and it is fitted with smooth two piece varnished rosewood grips. Complete with an original Smith & Wesson Gutta Percha case with decorative carved lid with image of a Number One revolver and "MANUFACTURED ONLY BY/SMITH & WESSON,/SPRINGFIELD MASSACHUSETTS". The inside of the lid has decorative hunter green colored velvet and there is dark green velvet on the bottom and a 56 round bullet block. .

Rating Definition:

Excellent. The revolver retains 95% plus original blue finish with some very minor thinning on the high points and showing only the most delicate collector type handling marks. The hammer retains most of the original case colors which is virtually unheard of with these rare tip-up revolvers.. The frame retains 99% original silver plating which has darkened with age. The grips are also excellent with 99% original varnish showing a few minor dings on the bottoms and overall a few minor handling marks. The barrel hinge screw is slightly marred, otherwise the revolver is nearly immaculate! The markings are clear. The action is fine. The case is excellent with some moderate contact wear.
