Description:

Manufactured from 1857 to 1860, with the top of the barrel rib marked "SMITH & WESSON SPRINGFIELD MASS." and the cylinder is marked with the 1855, '59 and '60 patent dates, (faint). The back strap is period inscribed "J. B. Simpson N.Y.". The revolver has a brass blade front and notch rear sights, the entire revolver is silver plated and is fitted with smooth two piece varnished rosewood grips. Complete with an original Smith & Wesson Gutta Percha case with decorative carved lid with image of a Number One revolver and "MANUFACTURED ONLY BY/SMITH & WESSON,/SPRINGFIELD MASSACHUSETTS". The inside of the lid has decorative maroon velvet and there is dark green velvet on the bottom and a 56 round bullet block. Writer did an internet search on a J.B. Simpson and only found an individual from that time period, (1846-1928) from Illinois. More research may prove interesting.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The revolver retains 85% original silver plating with some flaking and wear on the barrel and cylinder, and some wear on the frame. The small amount of attractive exposed brass along high edges. The grips are fine with 95% original varnish showing some very minor lower edge wear and a few minor dings and handling marks. The barrel latch is tight and the action is excellent. The case is excellent with some moderate to heavy contact wear from the cylinder.
