Remington Hepburn No. 3 Sporting Model Single Shot Rifle

This lever activated falling block single shot target rifle was designed by Lewis Hepburn and was manufactured from 1883 to 1907 with approximately 10,000 in total production. The top barrel flat is marked "E. REMINGTON & SONS. ILION. N.Y." ahead of the rear sight. globe front sight with a Marble's filler block in the rear sight dovetail and mid range vernier tang mounted peep sight. The lower left side of the receiver is marked "HEPBURNS PAT./OCT 7TH 1879" and the serial number is marked on the lower tang. The bottom barrel flat under the forearm is marked with the matching serial number, "VM", "S.T." "SS" and "664" and the bottom flat ahead of the forearm is marked "38.1 3/4". Blue barrel, niter blue breechblock, hammer and trigger, casehardened remaining metal parts and mounted with a smooth forearm with an iron forend insert, and checkered round knob pistol grip stock with iron carbine style buttplate.

ConditionVery good as partially refinished. The barrel retains 95% of the thinning blue finish with some wrench marks. The breech block, hammer and trigger retain almost all of the original bright niter blue finish with some normal usage wear. The action, trigger guard and buttplate retain 90% original bright case colors. The wood is also excellent with a few minor dings and handling marks, and sharp checkering. The markings are clear. The action is excellent.
