Description:

Manufactured in 1898 with a number 3 barrel and a panelled receiver. The barrel has a fixed German silver blade front sight, a W.F. Sheard three leaf flip up rear sight with the front leaf being elevation adjustable and a fully adjustable tang mounted Lyman #103 peep sight. The top of the barrel has the two line address marking, the left side is marked "NICKEL STEEL BARREL/ESPECIALLY FOR SMOKELESS POWDER" and the top is marked "30 U.S." and also "FROM W.F. SHEARD/TACOMA, WASH.". The lower tang is marked with the patent date and serial number. Fitted with a smooth walnut forearm with ebony tip and straight grip stock with smooth curved steel buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Very fine as partially refinished, 90% plus blue finish remains with some high edge wear, some scattered minor scratches and two areas of moderate pitting on the barrel. 30% of the faded original case colors remain mostly in the protected areas on the lever. The wood is very good with some scattered minor scratches, some scattered minor dings and a few larger dings concentrated mostly on the toe.
