Remington Hepburn No. 3 Sporting Model Single Shot Rifle

Designed by Lewis Hepburn, this lever activated falling block single shot target rifle was manufactured from 1883 to 1907 with approximately 10,000 in total production. The top barrel flat of the replacement barrel is marked "E. REMINGTON & SONS. ILION. N.Y." behind the rear sight. The bottom flat is marked "40. 2 1/2" ahead of the forearm and "3952" under the forearm. Combination Beach front sight and adjustable rear sporting sight. The lower left side of the receiver is marked "HEPBURNS PAT./OCT 7TH 1879" and the serial number is marked on the lower tang. Blue barrel, niter blue breechblock, hammer and trigger, casehardened remaining metal parts and mounted with a smooth forearm with an iron forend insert, and checkered round knob pistol grip stock with iron sporting style buttplate.

ConditionFine as modified, see above, with 70% original thin blue finish remaining on the barrel showing areas of smooth brown patina and edge wear. The receiver retains 80% original case colors. The trigger guard has a smooth mottled grayish patina. The buttplate has a mottled gray patina. The forend cap has a gray and brown patina with some minor pitting. The wood is also fine with a few minor chips on the rear edge of the forearm that does not fit up to the action and overall some minor dints and scratches. The markings are clear. The action is fine.
