Manufactured in 1891. Also known as the Express Model, this is an upsized version of the Lightning rifle, made to handle the larger rifle cartridges of the era. Blade front and adjustable buckhorn rear sights on an octagon barrel stamped "COLT'S PT.F.A.MFG.CO. HARTFORD. CONN. U.S.A./PATENTED MAY 29, SEPT. 18, 83, MAY 26, 85, JUNE 15, 86, FEB. 22, 87" on the top flat ahead of the rear sight and "50-95-Ex." on the upper left flat at the breech. The frame has the Rampant Colt stamped on the left side and an engraved script inscription "Robert Clayton" on the right side. The serial number is stamped on the lower tang. Mounted with a smooth pistol grip stock with a crescent steel buttplate. The forearm has a multi-point checkered pattern.

Fair. The rifle retains traces of original blue finish in the protected areas with a gray patina on the balance and minor pitting. The wood is very good with a crack on the forearm, some chipping on the bottom of pistol grip and some minor handling marks. The forearm checkering has some blemishes but is crisp overall. Trigger is stiff but action functions fine.
