Manufactered circa 1870 this is a rare factory engraved Ballard derringer. The brass frame has a scroll and punch dot engraving on the sides along with three attractive stars. The breech end of the barrel has light engraved accents. The top barrel flat is marked "BALLARD'S" with the left barrel flat marked with the address/patent date marking. Barrel is numbered to gun. Fitted with smooth bird head pearl grips.

Good. The barrel shows traces of original blue finish and the balance is a mottled gray patina with minor pitting. The frame has an attractive mellow aged patina with a crisp engraving. The grips are fine with some chipping. Mechanically fine. A scarce highly desirable derringer.
