Description:

This is an example of an assembled WWII German 98K high turret sniper rifle. The top of the receiver is probably marked with "ar" the wartime code for the Mauser factory at Borgiswalde, Berlin. The right side of the receiver ring has three "Eagle/26" Waffenamt proofs, and the side wall marked "Mod.98". The left rear of the barrel and receiver are stamped with the serial number and a single "Eagle" firing proof, with no other markings. As noted it is fitted with a set of the turret mounts that are unproofed and fitted with a commercial rifle scope that is marked on the left side "STEIGLEDER/SUHL". The scope has a focus ring on the rear of the scope tube and is numbered on the left side of the elevation base, "19966". The scope rings, and rifle bases are unnumbered or proofed. This rifle has the early features such as the early milled barrel bands and trigger guard and floorplate, as well as the laminated stock and flat buttplate. The stock is stamped on the right side with a double "Eagle/WaA26" Waffenamt proof below the stock bolt.

Rating Definition:

Very good as assembled overall with 80% of the original blue finish, with actual blue loss on the turret bases, trigger guard and floorplate, with some cold blue touch up on the scope rings. The stock and handguard are also both very good with a nice matching color and finish with numerous handling marks, scratches and pressure dents overall. The rifle has matching visible numbers except the scope rings and turret mounts as noted above.
