This is a refinished example of a late WWII K98 service rifle as manufactured by the J.P. Sauer & Sohns factory in Suhl. These are a very difficult rifle to obtain as their production quantities were considerably lower than most of the other wartime factories. The receiver ring is marked with a single "Eagle/37" over "CE/44" which was the wartime code for the Sauer factory and 44 for the year of manufacture. The right side of the receiver has a single Eagle/280" Waffenamt proof and both the receiver and barrel have a single Eagle firing proof on the left side with no other markings or proofs. The receiver side wall has the typical script "Mod. 98" markings only found on J.P. Sauer & Sohns rifles. It is fitted with a wartime laminated stock and handguard, with only the serial number of the rifle on the underside of the buttstock with a faint Waffenamt proof on the right side of the butt below the take down washer. It has all milled components, with the front barrel band being a field replacement using an early "H" pattern band. It is complete with the correct sheet metal front sight hood, cleaning rod and leather sling. This scarce rifle has been fitted with an unusual set of stock bolts, the front one is from a Czech G 24(t) rifle, with a rear stock bolt installed directly in front of the rear trigger guard screw, that is similar to a GEW stock bolt.
