Colt London Agency Single Action Army Revolver with Colt Agency Labeled Oak Case and Factory Letter

Colt cased London Agency Single Action Revolver with Colt factory letter. The letter describes the revolver as caliber ".45/c" with a 5 1/2 inch barrel and blue finish. The type of stocks are not listed. The letter states that the revolver was shipped to Colt's London Agency on July 19, 1880. The revolver has a high polish blue barrel, ejector housing, cylinder, frame, loading gate, trigger guard and back strap. The hammer is casehardened and the one piece grip walnut has a varnished piano finish. The revolver has a bullseye ejector rod head and hammer with bordered knurled spur. The top of the barrel is roll stamped "COLT'S PT. F.A. MFG. Co. HARTFORD CT. U.S.A. DEPOT 14. PALL MALL LONDON". The left side of the frame is stamped with the Colt three line, three date patents. The caliber designation, "45 CAL/B" (.450 Boxer) is stamped on the left heel of the trigger guard. The assembly number "201" is stamped on the inside of the loading gate. Two small London "Crown/P" and "Crown C/P" proof and inspection marks are stamped on the underside of the barrel. Proof marks are stamped on each chamber of the cylinder. The full serial number, "43895" is stamped on the bottom of the frame, trigger guard and back strap. The partial serial number, "3895" is stamped on the cylinder. The revolver is complete with a British oak compartment case with green baize lining. The case lid has brass screw reinforcements and a round brass escutcheon. The case interior has a 24-round cartridge block and three compartments. The case contains a pewter oil bottle, L-shaped screwdriver, steel cleaning rod and twenty-four cartridges. A Colt picture instruction sheet is attached to the inside of the case lid. Also included with the revolver is a two-page description by Colt expert and author R. L. Wilson. Colt manufactured only 729 Single Action Army revolvers chambered for the .450 Boxer cartridge.

ConditionVery good. The revolver retains nearly 90% of the period refurbished high polish blue finish. The barrel and ejector housing have a few minor scratches and there are traces of light pitting on the left side of the frame near the patent markings. The blue finish on the cylinder is thin but 90% intact. The grips are fine and retain 85% of the original varnish. The case is fine. The exterior shows typical light handling marks. The green baize interior has several minor tears from contact with the revolver components. The instruction sheet has a small oil stain and one small tear but is good. This is a very good example of a scarce London Agency .450 Boxer, Single Action Army Revolver with British case and accessories.
