Description:

According to the included factory letter this revolver was part of a four-weapon shipment to the Richards & Conover Hardware Company of Kansas City, Missouri on April 21, 1896, in 32/20 caliber with a 4 3/4 inch barrel, blue finish, and "Not Listed" grips. Also included is a notarized letter, dated May of 1998, Pima County, Arizona and signed by Lieutenant Colonel John W. Wallace, U.S.A.F. (Ret.), which outlines a chain of possession starting with Robert Leroy Parker (named "Leroy Parker" in the affidavit), aka Butch Cassidy, leader of the Wild Bunch, who gave the revolver to small time outlaw and Cassidy Gang member Joe Davenport. Retiring from a life of crime and taking a job as a night watchman in Rock Springs, Wyoming, Davenport later gave the revolver to a dentist named Dr. Breihan, possibly as payment for services rendered. The revolver remained with the Breihans until the Dr's son, also a Doctor, traded it to Colonel Wallace's father Jack Wallace in exchange for his services as a machinist. Note: The notarized letter states that the revolver was given to Joe Davenport by Cassidy when Cassidy went to prison for cattle rustling. Cassidy went to prison in 1894, two years before the revolver was shipped from the Colt factory. Fixed sights, with the two line Hartford address on top of the barrel, "32 WCF" on the left side and the left side of the frame is marked with the two line, three patent dates followed by the circled Rampant Colt. The matching serial number is marked on the bottom of the frame, trigger guard and back strap. With earlier production replacement checkered hard rubber grips, bearing the Rampant Colt and American Eagle imprints.

Rating Definition:

Good as refinished, showing 98% of the current blue with some darker spotting and handling marks overall, as well as some mild edge wear. 85% bright case colors are present on the frame and hammer with some gray streaking and edge wear. Grips are fair with a mended crack in the left panel and fill in the right butt. Mechanically very good. One will have to draw their own conclusions as to this revolver!
