This is an example of a U.S. Model 1816 Flintlock Musket that was manufactured by M.T. Wickham of Philadelphia c. 1828. This musket is finished brown and has the sling swivel mounted on the front of the trigger guard bow. The lock has a detachable brass flash pan. The musket has a black walnut stock with low comb that is characteristic of the Model 1816 Musket. The lock plate edges are beveled forward of the hammer and rounded behind it. The lock is marked "US/M.T. WICKHAM" in front of the hammer and "PHILA/1828" behind the hammer. The barrel is marked "LS/JM/P" at the breech and the tang is dated "1829". The left stock flat has two visible oval cartouches and the buttplate tang is marked "US". Complete with an iron button end ramrod and "US" marked socket bayonet.
