Description:

This is a desirable pre-World War I DWM Model 1906, standard Imperial German Navy first issue/altered Luger pistol. Almost 99% of all the original first issue Navy Lugers were subsequently altered to the second pattern safety markings. This required that the original lower safety makings were polished or milled out with the word "GESICHERT" remarked in the upper position. This example has the standard undated chamber area with the script "DWM" logo on the front toggle. The left side of the barrel extension is marked with two "Crown/M" Navy proofs and one crown proof. The underside of the barrel is also stamped with a single "Crown/M" acceptance proof and full serial number. It has the military style numbering with the full number on the major parts with the partial number "12" on the various smaller components. The crown proof is also on the left side of the breech block and the extractor is marked "GELADEN". Standard front sight with the unique two-position, Navy rear sight marked with "100" and "200". It is complete with one non-matching Navy type Luger magazine with the nickel plated body with the wooden base with correct concentric circles on the sides. The base is stamped "7896".

Rating Definition:

Fine condition with 75% of the faded arsenal blue finish overall with thinning and blue loss on the edges and high spots overall. The various small parts retain 40% of their straw colors. Mechanically excellent. The walnut grips are in very good condition with exception of a sliver of wood separated under the safety lever. Nice distinct checkering is present on both sides mixed with minor handling and light pressure dents overall.
