Description:

This is a solid example of an original U.S. Springfield Armory M1C sniper rifle with an M82 Telescopic Sight, a russet leather cheek piece and a leather sling. The M1C sniper rifles were originally developed in mid to late 1944. They were also used in Korea by both the U.S. Army and USMC. This rifle was manufactured in January of 1945 and was probably overhauled during the Korean Conflict. The barrel is marked "S-A-6-46", the elevation drum is marked "BATTLE RANGE", the windage drum is the bar lock style, the operating rod is marked "D35382 9 SA", the bolt is marked "D28287-19SA/A-9", the trigger housing is marked "D28290-18-SA" and the hammer is stamped "C46008-9 SA" The scope mount base is stamped with the matching serial number "3374217" and the blue Griffin & Howe mount is stamped "3374617" on the right side. There is an M82 Telescope serial number "39432" in the Griffin & Howe mount. The rifle is fitted with a smooth walnut pistol grip stock that is stamped on the left side with a boxed "S.A./N.F.R." cartouche, an Ordnance wheel, a circled "P" firing proof on the pistol grip and a checkered steel buttplate housing a plastic oiler/cleaning kit. With a russet leather lace-on cheekpad marked at the top "K/Line" and a flash hider. Nearly all M1C sniper rifles were rebuilt by Springfield Armory or other Ordnance facilities during the Korean Conflict and most were destroyed by the Army during the 1980s. Only a few hundred M1C rifles were released to the public by the DCM or through Title 10 exchange programs. This rifle comes with the original Title 10 paper stating it was shipped from CMH Collections Clearing House at Anniston Army Depot in Alabama and with a letter from Dave McClain stating that his friend Bob Seijas documented this rifle on a trip in 1984 to the Center of Military History in Pueblo, Colorado.

Rating Definition:

Very fine as arsenal refurbished with 98% of the olive green parkerized finish remaining showing some scratches and high edge wear. The stock set is very good with scattered dings and scratches. Mechanically excellent. The scope is very fine with 90% plus original blue finish and clear optics. The cheekpad is very good.
