Description:

This is an outstanding all original registered Canadian version of the British MKI antitank rifle, commonly called a "Boys" rifle after its original designer Captain Boys. This one is even more rare in that it is "U.S. Gov't PROPERTY" marked on the side of the receiver. These were designed in the 1935/36 time frame by Captain Boys in response to the British Ministry's request for a lightweight man-portable high-velocity anti-tank rifle. It was adopted by the British Army in 1937 but was overtaken by advancements in tank armor making it somewhat ineffective against the Germans. However it was used successfully by the Finnish Army in 1940 against early Russian tanks and again in the Far East against the light armored Japanese tanks, gun emplacements and pillboxes. In the post-Korean War era many of these rifles were converted to .50 BMG for long range sniper use. This rifle is all original. It has matching numbers on the receiver, bolt and rear section of the barrel and is still chambered in the original .55 cal Boys rifle round. The left front side of the receiver is marked "U.S. PROPERTY/R.B./MK I/INGLIS/1943", and it has the correct/original Canadian proof marks on top of the receiver and barrel. These rifles use a top loading box magazine with the iron-sights offset to the left, very similar to the Bren gun. It is complete with the original front mounted bipod, 9 original magazines contained in an original magazine storage box and 90 rounds of original Boys 55 Cal ammunition.

Rating Definition:

Excellent condition with 97% original blue/black finish overall. The wood components, cheek piece, and two pistol grips are also in like new condition. As noted this desirable rifle has all matching numbers as noted above. NOTE: This weapon is a National Firearms Act (NFA) Weapon, which is registered with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE) as a "Destructive Device" under the provisions of 18 U.S.C. Chapter 44 and 27 CFR part 478. Before bidding on this weapon is it the sole responsibility and obligation of the bidder to understand and comply with all the State and Federal transfer laws and restrictions that apply in their current place of residence.
