This is an excellent USAS-12 semi-automatic shotgun as manufactured by the Korea company Daewoo. These were developed in the mid to late 1980s by the Daewoo Company in response to some interest by the USMC in developing a fully automatic Combat Assault Weapon or shotgun. The Daewoo company was founded in the late 1960s and was a major Korean conglomerate company manufacturing all type of products in Korea. These weapons were produced on a very limited basis with a few example being legally imported into the US by the Gilbert Equipment Company (Nashville Tenn.) in 1989 with an even fewer number being legally registered. Initially these shotguns were allowed to be imported into the US as a standard shotgun; however the ATF later classified these weapons as "Destructive Devices", because they have bore larger than 1/2 inch and are not generally recognized as a weapon particularly suitable for sporting purposes. This shotgun fires from a closed bolt, with features similar to the M16 rifle in that it has a carrying handle on top with hooded, post front sight with a two position flip-up rear sight. The lower trigger groups/pistol grip assembly is very similar to the M16A1 rifle. The left side of the receiver is marked: "USAS-12/12 GA 2 3/4 INCH/US PAT.4930399", with the right side marked "GILBERT EQUIPMENT CO./NASHVILLE TN. U.S.A/A00O1187SA". This weapon is complete with one original Korean made, plastic box magazine (holds 10 rds), one spare magazine, sling cleaning kit and soft case.
