Description:

Manufactured without sights, with a punch-dot border at the front of the octagonal panels, a light feathered border at the breech, and a pair of Birmingham crossed scepter proofs on the upper left flat. The lock plate is scroll engraved, with a "fish head" hammer, radiant bursts on the drum and screws, and "THEOP./RICHARDS" ahead of the hammer. Born into the firearms and general merchandise trade, Theophillius Richards took over the family business in 1779 and ran it until his death in 1828, leaving it to his sons, which included William Westley Richards of Westley Richards & Company fame. Checkered straight wrist stock, with a horn tipped ramrod, floral engraved trigger guard with brass finial, and a shield and flowers on the brass buttplate heel. A triangular snap bayonet, 11 inches with single fullers on each side, is secured to the muzzle, with the sliding retainer on the upper tang.

Rating Definition:

Very good as converted to percussion. The barrel shows a well aged patina overall, with scattered dents and scratches. Pitting (deep) is present on the lock and hammer, with a gray patina overall and fading of the markings. Stock is good, with a pin-repaired crack on the left side of the forearm and some dings and scuffs overall. The half-cock notch is a bit weak, otherwise both the lock and bayonet are mechanically very good.
