This is an example of a rare two-digit "36" dated Luftwaffe contract Krieghoff Luger pistol. The total number of Krieghoff pistols manufactured for the Luftwaffe throughout WWII is approximately 13,000. Only about 500 total manufactured with the rare two-digit "36" dated chamber area. These early Krieghoff Lugers have the typical high polish commercial blue finish with straw colored small parts with the distinctive brown checkered grips. The chamber area is marked "36", with the "H-K anchor/KRIEGHOFF/SUHL" logo on front toggle. The right side of the barrel extension has the double "Eagle/2" acceptance proofs, with a proof on the front edge of the frame rail. The left side of the barrel and barrel extension both have a single, early drooped-wing, Luftwaffe Eagle firing proof. The underside of the barrel has the full serial number, along with the "Eagle/2" proof and the bore diameter. It is serial numbered in the military style with the full serial number on the barrel, barrel extension and the frame with the last two digits of the serial number on the small parts such as the side plate, the breech bolt, toggle assembly, firing pin, trigger and takedown lever. The extractor and ejector are marked "GELADEN" and "GESICHERT" respectively. It is fitted with a set of brown checkered Mauser style grips with the fine checkering and wide border. It is complete with one "fxo/Eagle" proofed magazine, with the blue magazine body and unnumbered black plastic base.

Very fine overall with 75% of the slightly faded original blue finish overall with edges and high spot wear with some minor cold blue touch up on the grip straps. 30% of the original straw colors remain. The grips are also very fine with nice distinct checkering on both sides with minor handling marks. This scarce early Krieghoff Luger has all matching numbers except the magazine as noted above.
