Description:

This is an excellent example of a very scarce early post-WWI DWM Model 1920 Commercial Luger pistol with the "SU25" military proof and is also serial number "2R". Every letter series for every serial number range had a single digit number and you would think they would be all over the place. However single digit serial numbered Luger are very scarce and highly sought after by Luger collectors. This example is in excellent original condition, showing only minor wear. The top of the chamber area is blank and the front toggle has the standard intertwined "DWM" logo. The left side of the barrel extension, left side of the breechblock and the under side of barrel have the standard "Crown/N" commercial proofs. It is correctly numbered in the commercial fashion with the front of the frame and underside of the barrel stamped with the full serial number "2r". It has the standard front and rear fixed sights and is complete with one nickel plated magazine with the wooden base stamped "GERMANY". This desirable Luger is accompanied by an original WWI artillery Luger holster, 1915 dated that has been cutdown or altered for use with these standard 4 inch barreled Lugers. This was a very common practice after WWI during the Weimar period when all Luger pistol has to conform to the Versailles Treaty and were restricted to a four inch barrel. The front of the holster is stamped "C.Billep/Spandau/1915" and the inside flap has several ink stamps typical of the Weimar reissued Luger holster.

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 98% of the original blue finish overall with wear on the edges and high spots, with 95% of the straw colors on the various small parts. The grips are also in excellent condition, with distinct checkering showing a few handling marks on the right side. The holster is in very fine condition as originally altered during the Weimar period that retains nice tight stitching overall with the new toe-plug intact and correctly sewn in. the markings are clear and sharp on the front. A nice example of an early 1920 era rework luger with the very rare single digit serial number.
