Excellent Pre-War Colt Government Model Semi-Automatic Pistol

This is an excellent example of a Colt Government Model pistol that was manufactured in 1926. The pistol has the post-WWI Colt bright commercial blue finish with fully checkered walnut grips. The barrel chamber and feed ramp are polished bright. The flat base commercial magazine has the proper two-tone finish. The pistol has the frame recess cuts and short trigger introduced in October 1923, arched checkered main spring housing and short hammer. The rear of the slide is marked with the pistol serial number "149/245" underneath the firing pin stop. The underside of the blue commercial barrel is stamped with an "S" ahead of the barrel lug but has no other markings. An "S" is stamped on top of the frame to the right rear of the disconnector hole. The right side of the frame is marked "GOVERNMENT MODEL/C149245" to the rear of the slide stop hole. A sub-inspection mark "51" is stamped on the right trigger guard web. The left side of the trigger guard web is stamped with the assembler's number "1" above the Colt "VP/triangle" proofmark. The right side of the slide is marked with the legend "COLT AUTOMATIC/CALIBRE.45" followed by the Rampant Colt. The opposite side of the slide is marked with the two line, elongated Colt's Hartford address and 1897-1913 patent dates. The magazine base is marked "COLT/45 AUTO.".

ConditionExcellent plus. The pistol retains 95% of the original high polish blue finish. There are some minor bright edges on the forward edge of the slide and frame and some minor storage surface scratches on the sides of the slides. The grips are excellent with some light handling wear and crisp checkering. The magazine retains 97% of the original blue finish with some scattered surface spotting on the body and floor plate. The markings are crisp and clear. Mechanically fine. An excellent example of a 1926 production Colt Government Model pistol.
