Scarce Colt Model 1911A1 Transitional Model Semi-Automatic Pistol

This is a beautiful example of an original Colt "Transition Model" Model 1911A1 pistol that was manufactured in 1924. This series of pistol was fairly short lived and basically ushered in the improved version of the WWI Colt Model 1911 pistol before the Model 1911A1 was formally adopted by the U.S. Army. The pistols retained the Model 1911 slide markings but were manufactured with the new Model 1911A1 modifications. These modifications include an extended grip safety tang, checkered and arched mainspring housing, radius clearance cuts machined into the frame behind the trigger, cut back trigger with a knurled face and wider front sight blade. The left side of the slide is stamped with the two-line, two-block, Colt 1897-1913 patent dates and address with the Rampant Colt in the middle. The right side of the frame is stamped "UNITED STATES PROPERTY/No 705406" behind the slide stop hole, with the left side stamped with the U.S. Ordnance. Inspector's initials "WTG". The top of the frame is stamped with an "H" provisional inspection mark along with a "G" government production order mark. The slide is correctly not serial numbered and the chamber area of the barrel is stamped with the intertwined "HP" firing proof and no other markings. It is fitted with the early correctly checkered slide stop, thumb safety, main spring housing and the wide spur hammer. The pistol has the brush military blue finish and is fitted with the full-checkered walnut grips as adopted in 1924.

ConditionExcellent. The pistol retains 97% plus of the original Colt brush blue military style finish with wear on the edges and high spots overall. The grips are also excellent with some minor handling marks, most noticeable on the lower left and sharp checkering. The magazine is a modern replacement. The markings are crisp and clear. Mechanically excellent.
