Description:

This is just an outstanding all original exceptional Model 1941 Johnson Arms semi-automatic rifle. This rifle was designed by Melvin Johnson in 1939 and it was a serious contender against the M1 Garand rifle when the military was looking for a new rifle. Although the US Army adopted the M1 Garand rifles the USMC Marine Corps Parachute and Raider Battalions acquired some as a war expedient models and used them very effectively in the early island hopping campaign in the South Pacific in 1942/43. These Johnson rifles have several unique features/improvements over the M1 Garand, such as a ten round, rotary magazine that could be easily be loaded at any time with either a single or multiple rounds before or during a battle and a quick and easily removable barrel that allowed for easy storage in a parachute jump bag. These rifles saw heavy use during WWII with most being in terrible condition with this example being in like new condition. The receiver is marked with the original five line patent dates followed by the four line "JOHNSON AUTOMATICS/MODEL OF 1941" logo, address and the serial number "B3064". The barrel is marked "J.A./30-06" on the breech end, with the front of the barrel support marked "30-06/41" with the rear chamber area of the barrel and locking lugs/barrel extension area both correctly stamped with the matching number "1364G". The right rear side of the receiver is stamped with the "CRANSTON/ARMS/CO." inside an inverted triangle. The right side of the rear sight is stamped "METERS" with "M2" stamped on the left side. This exceptional rifle retains its original WWII green parkerized finish on the steel parts with the original lighter green parkerized finish on the stamped steel rotary magazine assembly. The rear sight assembly also has the original/correct WWII blue/black finish clearly indicating that this rifle has never been refinished. It is fitted with its original oil finished two-piece walnut buttstock and forend with the original checkered steel buttplate. The rifle bolt is correctly still in the original "in the white condition".

Rating Definition:

Excellent condition with 99% of the original WWII parkerized finish overall. The stock and forend are also in like new condition with a bright shiny appearance on the oil finished stock with only a couple very minor handling marks overall. An exceptional all original WWII Johnson semi-automatic rifle that would be a centerpiece of any WWII martial arms collection.
