This is a 1931 dated Model 1903 Springfield bolt action rifle that has been assembled into a M1942 style USMC Sniper rifle. The rifle itself is an original M1903 rifle that has a star gauged barrel, which was reconditioned. The barrel has a partial star-gauged type mark on the muzzle and the top of the barrel (under the handguard) has been restamped with a sudo stat-gauge mark (O 179). It is fitted with an original "NS" marked parkerized bolt that has been renumbered (1415545) on top to match the rifle. The stock is a correct pistol grip "C" stock that has the correct prewar style handguard. The stock has no cartouche or P proof, however it does have the correct "D-1836-4" drawing number by the lower toe area and a square hole has been cut through the handguard to allow the front scope block protrude through. The font of the barrel is stamped "S A/flaming bomb/4-31" behind the front sight. The rear sight does not have the 2,850 yard volley notch and the face of the slide has been repolished to duplicate a NM style. It has the correct milled components along with a M2 heavy checkered buttplate. The rifle has been fitted with a correct height/style of Unertl scope blocks on the receiver and barrel, and has been fitted with an original 1942 USMC marked Sniper Scope. The scope is correctly marked "J. UNERTL/USMC-SNIPER/2655" and has the original screw on scope caps. Complete with original 1918 pattern unmarked leather sling.

Fine as assembled to duplicate an original 1903 Sniper rifle with 80% of the arsenal refurbished finish overall. The stock and handguard are both in very good condition with handling marks and light pressure dents and dings overall. The scope is also in very fine condition with 90% of the blue finish overall with 75% of the black finish on the scope mounts. The optics are clear and sharp. This would make a very fine representative example of a very scarce WWII sniper.
