The top of the receiver is marked "MOD98 over byf/45" and the right side has the Mauser factory acceptance proofs. The left side of the barrel and receiver, both have a single eagle firing proof. The rear sight base has been adapted with the dovetail base for the ZF 41 scope mount and scope. This is a late war rifle that has stamped components to include the barrel bands, trigger guard and floorplate, with the trigger guard and floorplate stamped with a "svw" and "byf" proof respectively with both having a single "eagle/135" proof. The barrel bands are screwed on to the stock and are unnumbered and unproofed. The bolt is numbered "8992" on top of the handle and has a "1" proof on the underside. It has the standard K98 front and rear sight with the rear sight graduated from 1-20 (100-2000 meters). It is fitted with the laminated stock and hand guard. The stock has only a single "eagle/135" Waffenamt proof on the right side and is fitted with the late war cupped buttplate. The mount is marked on the rear leg, "eagle 214/duv" with the serial number 87 electro-pencil marked on both scope rings and the mount. The scope is marked "cag/ZF/41/12114" and is missing the rain shields.

Near excellent overall with 95% plus of the blue finish overall with the various components having more of a late war gray/brown phosphate type finish with some minor pitting under the phosphate finish on the replaced floorplate and front barrel band. The stock and handguard are both excellent showing a rough exterior finish with a clear stock proof. The scope and mount retains 90% of the blued finish which is thinning mixed with a slight brown patina. The optics are moderately clear with some minor cloudiness, however the elevation ring does not rotate and may be due to stiff grease. It is difficult to find a byf/45 in this condition.
