This is an example of a Third Type Model 1816 flintlock musket from a contract for 21,560 muskets manufactured by Asa Waters of Millbury, Massachusetts between 1817 and 1836. This musket was finished bright with casehardened lock plate and removable brass flash pan. It has the Waters Third Type marking of "US/A. WATERS" in front of the hammer and "MILLBURY/1831" stamped vertically behind the hammer. The barrel tang is dated "1832". The breech end of the barrel is marked "656" with "US/AH/P MS". The full length stock has three barrel bands, a script cartouche on the left flat and a script cartouche on the comb near the "US" marked buttplate tang. With a button head iron ramrod.
