Description:

This is an example of a late WWII, 1945 dated British Enfield No. 4 MK 1 (T) sniper rifle, with a No. 32 MK 3 telescope. These rifles were developed in 1939 and was adopted as the standard WWII and Korea British sniper rifle with approximately 26,000 manufactured. It was eventually replaced in the early 1960s by the L42 series rifle. The left side of the butt socket is marked "M47 C/1945/U34547/TR". The receiver ring has the standard British "Crown/GP" Enfield proof marks, along with "ENGLAND". It is fitted with the original unmarked WWII scope mount that is numbered (U34547). The scope is marked: "TEL. SIGHTING/No. 32 Mk.3/O.S. 2039A/No 25662". The rifle has the standard wartime tangent rear sight and fixed blade front sight with a matching bolt. The rifle has the standard straight grip walnut stock marked "S51" on the bottom with proofmarks on the bottom of the wrist, with scope serial number "25662" stamped on top of the wrist area. The stock is correctly fitted with a screw-on walnut cheekpiece and a WWII standard brass buttplate with trapdoor. It is complete with one original unnumbered magazine, a late hard scope can/bag that is marked on the front: RIFLE/U34547/SCOPE 25662" and below that: CASE STG TEL NoS MK2. This rifle is complete with an original green storage chest marked on the outside: "CHEST SA No 15 MK 1" with the front marked in white paint "BA5885" with a white paper label on the end marked pencil U34547".

Rating Definition:

Very fine condition with 95% of the WWII black painted finish overall with edge and high spot wear. The stock, forestock and handguards are also all in very fine condition with the correct original WWII finish with minimal handling marks with all the correct proofs and numbers. The scope and mount are also in fine condition with 95% of the original black painted finish overall with wear and finish loss on the front and rear ends of the scope tube. The optics are clear however the windage and elevation knobs are frozen. The scope case is also in very fine condition with clear markings. The storage chest is in fair condition with nice original paint and markings with 85% of the original green painted finish with wear on the edges and corners showing wear with a large crack running the full length of the front of the box and the lid. A nice example of a complete all original WWII British sniper rifle.
