Description:

This an excellent example of an extremely rare 2nd Pattern Luftwaffe General Officer's sword manufactured by Eickhorn of Solingen. The sword has a 31 1/2-inch straight single-fuller blade. The obverse of the blade has a blue-gray panel etched with the inscription "In dankbarer Anerkennug". The reverse is inscribed "Der Oberbefehlshaber der Luftwaffe" followed by the facsimile signature "Herman Goring". The blue-gray panels are flanked by scroll engraving and the top of the blade is decorated with foliate engraving. The Eickhorn proof mark is located on the reverse ricasso. The gold plated brass hilt has a urn shaped pommel, D-shaped knuckle bow, straight quillion and folding clam shell counter guard on the obverse of the hilt. The counter guard is decorated with an applied silver Luftwaffe eagle and swastika. The hilt has spiral orange grip with twisted wire wrap. The sword is complete with black leather scabbard with gold plated brass tip and throat. The scabbard retains the original black leather hanger.

Rating Definition:

Excellent plus. The sword retains 98% of the original gold plated finish on the hilt and shows only very minor storage wear. The blade retains all of the original polish and blue-gray finish on the etched panels. The etching is crisp and free from wear. The orange grip is excellent. The scabbard has very minor rub marks along the sides of the body, but remains excellent. This is an ultra-rare Third Reich 2nd Pattern Luftwaffe Officer's Sword and scabbard in excellent original condition that would be a centerpiece in an sword collection. This is your opportunity to own the finest!
