Description:

Also known as the Model 1938, the Fallschirmhelm was a Stahlhelm variant with the brim cut down to reduce drag, thicker webbing and lining, and a more sophisticated multi-point strap arrangement. Originally finished in a deep green, the helmet was upgraded with camouflage; a protective mask was applied over the single Luftwaffe eagle decal on the left side, and then a tan base coat followed by a mixed brown and green paint job was applied. The interior retains the original color with "5433" and "ET68" stamped inside the brim, a series of 4 "spanner" bolts retaining the inner webbing, and the crown of the webbing stamped in black "Kopfweite: Gr.57/Stahlhelm: Gr. 68/Baumuster: Heisler, Berlin C2/Hersteller: F.W. Muller jr.". Included with the helmet is a capture certificate, signed August 23, 1944 by a 1st Lt. of the 508th Parachute Infantry to a Major William Boyle for a "German Helmet paratrooper type" and a bayonet. Major Boyle has not yet been identified, though the date of issue for this certificate was during the rest between the 508's participation in the Invasion of Normandy and Operation Market Garden, suggesting that the helmet and bayonet may have been trophies taken during the Liberation of France.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The exterior shows a strong paint finish, with mild scuffs and scratches (some of which may have been deliberately applied to expose multiple layers of color and render the helmet less reflective) on the exterior and scattered handling marks overall. The chinstraps are solid, with mild rust on the buckle, and the liner shows minor staining and handling marks.
