Early Production U.S. Springfield Model 1873 Trapdoor Carbine

The high arch breechblock is marked "MODEL/1873/eagle head/arrows/US" and the lock plate is marked with the eagle/shield motif followed by "U.S./SPRINGFIELD/1873" ahead of the three click hammer. The rear sight is graduated 1,200 yards with the base graduated to 500 yards. The left rear of the barrel is marked "C/V/P/eagle head". A sling swivel is attached to the "U" marked single barrel band. Smooth trigger face and saddle ring bar with ring on the left side of the stock. The stock has a script "ESA" cartouche on the left side of the wrist, a circled script "P" behind the trigger guard and buttplate with "US" marked tang.

ConditionVery good as possibly arsenal refinished. The carbine has a smooth brown-gray patina with the lock plate, breechblock and barrel band retaining 90% of the arsenal blue finish, otherwise scattered traces of blue remain. The stock is very fine with some minor pressure dents and scratches. Mechanically excellent.
