The rifle has the Buffington folding leaf rear sight adjustable for elevation and windage with an "R" (rifle) stamped on the sight leaf. Lock with three-click tumbler and a grooved trigger. The lock plate has the eagle and shield motif followed by "U.S./SPRINGFIELD". "U.S./MODEL/1884" is stamped on the top of the breechblock. The Ordnance "V/P/Eagle Head/P" proof and inspection marks are stamped on the left side of the barrel with the letter "A" on to of the barrel at the breech. "US" is stamped on the buttplate. The left side of the stock wrist is stamped with a "SWP/1889" Ordnance final inspection mark. A circled script "P" proofmark is stamped on the underside of the stock behind the trigger guard.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. The rifle retains 98% original blue finish showing some minor thinning (mostly on the receiver) and high edge wear on the buttplate. The breech block and tang retain most of the vivid original case colors. The stock is very fine with some scattered minor handling marks and some noticeable long pressure indentations near and above cartouche. Mechanically excellent.
