Manufactured in 1947 with a special order octagon barrel in 22 long rifle, a scarce caliber in Model 61 rifles. The upper right barrel flat is marked with the two line address and the upper left flat has the Winchester Proof Steel, Model and trade mark legend followed by "-.22 LONG R.-". The Winchester factory oval proof is stamped on top of the barrel and receiver at the breech, and the matching serial number is marked on the bottom of the receiver and trigger guard plate. Dovetailed blade front and adjustable sporting rear sights and mounted with a 17-groove flat bottom forearm and smooth pistol grip stock with a checkered steel buttplate.

Near mint as professionally restored. The rifle retains 99% blue finish with finish loss limited to some wear on the slide arm from normal cycling of the action. The wood is very fine with a few minor chips in the varnish on the forearm and overall a few minor handling marks. The markings are sharp. The action is excellent. This is an outstanding Winchester Model 61 with octagonal barrel.
