Manufactured in 1898 and later factory rebarreled. The included Cody Firearms Museum research request states that the rifle was originally chambered for 38-55 caliber and was shipped on October 9, 1901. Blade front sight and elevation adjustable rear sight on a barrel with Winchester factory "WP" oval proof and factory rebarreled proof. Upper left barrel flat has the two line address/patent date marking and "38-55" and the upper tang has the three line model/patent dates. Smooth forearm and straight grip stock with crescent buttplate.
Good as refinished and factory rebarreled (see above). The barrel and magazine retain 95% of the blue finish with the remaining metal surfaces retaining traces of original blue finish and case colors, otherwise a smooth gray patina. Some minor pitting is present. The refinished wood is also good with a few minor handling marks. Mechanically fine.
