Description:

Measuring 32 1/2 inches long and 1 3/4 inches wide, the main body of the belt is constructed of brown leather facing over a treated canvas core, with a 13 inch solid leather segment on the left side as a mounting point for the gold washed hanger loops, and a solid leather tongue stamped "TERRY & JUDEN CO LTD./NEW ORLEANS, LA." on the front. The buckle is gold washed, with an eagle perched on an anchor on the round body, oak leaf patterns on the ends, and no visible makers marks. The rear belt hanger is included, with a similar leather over canvas construction and a gold washed spring clip, and the front hanger loop is equipped with a hook. With two research photocopies identifying Terry & Juden as suppliers of military material to the Confederacy. Though the firm of Terry & Juden survived the War well into the 20th century, the Union occupation of New Orleans in 1862 no doubt knocked them out of the Southern war effort.

Rating Definition:

Fair. The leather shows significant cracking and edge wear, with areas of exposed canvas. The metal components retain over 80% of the original gold finish, showing mild wear appropriate to age and use.
