Civil War U.S. Springfield Model 1861 Percussion Rifle-Musket with Bayonet

This is an early Civil War 1862 dated example of a Springfield Armory 1861 pattern rifle-musket, the primary Civil War musket as used by the Union forces. The lock plate has the standard "eagle/shield" and "U.S./SPRINGFIELD" markings ahead of the hammer and is dated "1862" behind it. The barrel is also dated "1862" and has "V/P/Eagle Head" proof and inspection marks on the left side at the breech. The full stock has two cartouches on the left flat and "SRC" stamped on the left side of the buttstock. The musket has a three leaf folding rear sight, a tulip head steel ramrod with swollen shank and "US" marked socket bayonet.

ConditionVery good. The musket has a bright appearance with a few patches of mild pitting. The reoiled stock is also very good with rounded edges, a few gouges and some minor handling marks. Mechanically fine. The bayonet has a bright appearance with light pitting overall.
