Manufactured in 1897. Marble-Sheard black painted brass blade front sight, with a filler block in the rear sight dovetail and a Lyman 56 peep sight mounted on the receiver. The top of the barrel is marked with the 2-line address between the sights and "45-70/N.S." at the breech. The blue receiver is marked "-Model 1886.-" on the upper tang, with the 2-line patent dates on the lower tang and a casehardened lever and hammer. Checkered fancy walnut pistol grip stock, with a button magazine, hard rubber grip cap and a checkered flat Winchester buttplate.
Very good as refinished, showing half of the blue finish, with some small patches of moderate pitting, brown patina and scattered handling marks. The frame shows a few small patches of pitting, with traces of bright and vivid colors in the protected areas of the hammer and lever. The stock is very good, with a slight gap between the forearm and the forearm cap, a tiny chip absent from the toe, mild dents and attractive grain. Mechanically excellent.
