Patterned after the German "Schiessbecher" rifle grenade launcher, the Type 2 was developed as a result of a Nazi German/Imperial Japanese technology exchange program, which also saw the introduction of shaped charge anti-tank weapons to the Imperial Army and Navy. Measuring 7 1/4 inches overall, with a 2 5/8 inch long, 30mm detachable rifled cup, a blued steel body with a pair of clamping arms, and the underside marked with the Japanese model nomenclature, serial number "2230" and the secret "ni" Nagoya Arsenal stamp over "53" (code for 1943).
