Remington Model 1875 Single Action Army Revolver

This is a very fine example of a Remington Model 1875 Single Action Army revolver with nickel plated finish. The revolver lacks the lanyard ring on the butt that was standard on early production revolvers and has the batch number "540" stamped on the left side of the frame beneath the grip. The revolver has a full nickel-plated finish with two-piece varnished walnut grips. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped: "E.REMINGTON & SONS.ILLON.N.Y.U.S.A." in a single line. The caliber designation "44" is stamped on the left side of the frame ahead of the cylinder. "GIRARD CHAMBERS/PENSACOLA FLA./NOV 9 1892" is written neatly in ink on the inside of the left grip. The Remington Model 1875 Single Action revolver was designed to compete with the Colt Singles Action Army but lacked the advantage of significant government sales.

ConditionExtremely fine. The revolver is all original and retains 90% of the unpolished nickel-plated finish. Wear is limited to scattered small spots of flaking on the cylinder, sides of the hammer, right side of the barrel web and some patches of flaking around the bottom of the front sight blade. The barrel and frame markings are sharp. The varnished walnut grips are in very fine condition with wear present on the bottom edges and numerous light dings. The action is tight and functions perfectly. This is a solid example of a Remington Model 1875 Single Action Army revolver with interesting markings inside the grip that merit research.
