U.S. Army Contract Model 1871 Rolling Block Pistol manufactured by the Remington Arms Co., c. 1872. The pistol has a military blue barrel with wide base steel front sight. The frame and trigger guard are color casehardened and the hammer and breech block are finished bright. The stock and forearm are oil finished, straight grain, American walnut. The left side of the frame is roll-stamped: "REMINGTON'S ILION.N.Y. U.S.A./PAT. MAY 3D. NOV 15th 1864. APRIL 17. 1866" in two lines. "P" and "S" are stamped on the left side of the frame. The Ordnance Department purchased approximately 5000 Model 1871 Rolling Block Pistols following the Civil War.

Good. The barrel retains traces of the original finish with blue finish remaining near the breech and by the forend and some hints of case coloring remaining on the frame. There is some pitting and minor oxidation overall. The revarnished wood is fine with some minor scratches and dings. Mechanically fine.
