Description:

This high art pair of long, silver mounted, Ottoman Empire flintlock pistols showcase the top of the line craftsmanship of the day. The pistol features an iron trigger guard for strength with the remaining mounts of repousse silver. The stock is finished with a heavy, silver, skull crusher butt enriched with high relief designs. The repousse silver includes a large area around the barrel tang followed by a large diamond escutcheon featuring a deep relief motif. The barrel has fine damascene with gold arabesques and the Turkish star and crescent moon. The rear barrel band has a dot and checkered pattern with a floral motif at the top. The lock plate has a floral engraving with a broad floral pattern on the trigger guard. The lightly incised stock has a faux ramrod. The "ramrod" is also silver.

Rating Definition:

Good. The pistol has a smooth gray patina with the engraving weak but visible. The lower trigger guard tang is cracked and the stock diamond escutcheon is a replacement. The silver is fine. The stock is fair with some extensive handling marks. Mechanically functions, but is extremely stiff. These are true high art silver mounted flintlock pistols from the Ottoman Empire.
