Description:

1) Large binder of American arms research data chiefly related to the FG42, including text and photographs from the Aberdeen Proving Ground, photocopies of original German text and translations of WWII/Cold War era foreign information sources. The Aberdeen information includes photographic breakdowns of both the first and second model FG42 and a June 1944 assessment of the weapon. The assessment concludes that the FG42 is a very interesting weapon "which should be studied with future weapons in view" but that it was "produced with apparently little thought as to the difficulty and the cost involved in the manufacture". 2) July 1943 dated Luftwaffe manual for the FG42 rifle, including a very large number of fold-out illustrations. A post-war translation of the instructions is included among the items in the aforementioned binder.

Rating Definition:

1) Fine overall with some wear and staining appropriate to age. Some photos from Springfield Armory are severely faded but this appears to be a problem with the original copying and not a result of wear. 2) Good Fragile with significant boxing of the edges and a tape-repaired cover spine. The text remains legible and the images good though there is some tearing along the folds. A scarce grouping of data and research material on one of the finer oddities of the Second World War.
