Description:

This is the very desirable WWII G 33/40 mountain fitted with an even rarer deactivated WWII silencer (schalldampfer). These G33/40 mountain carbines were a shortened version of the K98 rifle patterned after the Czech 33 carbine. They were manufactured by the BRNO factory in Czechoslovakia from 1940-1942 and were used by the Alpine Mountain troops who required a shortened, light weight rifle. The attached silencer is an original unmarked WWII version that has the same clamp type mount used on the German grenade launchers. The top half of the silencer has been milled away to deactivate it, and it basically consists of three different expansion chambers that were screwed together to capture the expanding gases. Very simplistic compared to today standards. The carbines themselves used a small ring action and with lightning cuts on the sides of the receiver, bolt and trigger guard and a small diameter light weight barrel. The stocks was correspondingly shorter and lighter with a sheet metal plate on the side of the stock to protect it from wear during use. The receiver is marked: "945/1940" (the first wartime code for the Brno factory) over "40" (the year of manufacture) with the side wall marked "G33/40". It is fitted with the correct one-piece walnut stock and handguard, with the correct Waffenamt proofs on the sides and underside of the stock and the matching serial number "3827c" stamped on the underside of the stock in front of the buttplate. It is fitted with the correct milled barrel bands and trigger guard and is complete with an original unmarked brown cross-hatched leather sling, cleaning rod and front sight cover.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 85% plus of the blue finish overall with edge and high spot wear with thinning on the upper barrel band/barrel area. The stock and handguard are both in fine condition with sharp Nazi proofs, a nice original matching stock finish showing numerous handling marks, scratches and pressure dents overall. The stock and handguard are matching. However, the bolt is not. Regardless this is an excellent example of a early G33/40 carbine that has been fitted with an even rarer original WWII German (deactivated) silencer.
