Description:

This is an excellent example of a rare late WWII, all blued Winchester Model 12 Trench Gun as manufactured in 1944-45. The Winchester Model 12 and Model 97 Trench Guns were the primary U.S. combat shotguns in WWII and Korea and even into Vietnam by both the Marine Corp and US Army. Consequently original unaltered WWII examples are extremely rare today, as almost all were rebuilt and reparkerized over time. The left side of the barrel is roll stamped with the two line Winchester address/patent dates followed by "-WINCHESTER-/-TRADE MARK-" and "MODEL 12-12 GA.-2 3/4 CHAM./CYL.". The top breech end of the barrel is stamped with a small Ordnance Dept. "Shell and Flame" insignia with both the barrel and front edge of the receiver stamped with the circled Winchester "WP" factory proofmark. The right front end of the receiver is also roll stamped with the Ordnance "Shell and Flame insignia/U.S.". This shotgun is fitted with a walnut stock and pump handle with the left side of the stock stamped with the boxed Ordnance "G.H.D." inspection mark and a small 1/4 inch U.S. Ordnance Escutcheon stamped below that. The serial number, "1010745" is roll stamped on the underside of the barrel extension and receiver. The walnut stock and forearm have a varnish finish with the black checkered hard rubber buttplate with the circular Winchester logo. The shotgun is fitted with the WWII pattern four hole all blued heat shield/bayonet lug. The stock has a sling swivel and the larger bail wire sling swivel located on the bayonet lug and is complete with a late WWII green canvas sling, marked "S.M. CO./1943" and a WWI Winchester manufactured M1917 bayonet and a WWII green plastic scabbard. The bayonet has the "Eagle Head/Ordnance Bomb proof/U.S." on the right side with the obverse having "1917/Circled W" and the scabbard is the correct trench gun pattern that has the Ordnance Bomb proof at the throat over "M-1917".

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 97% plus of the original blue finish overall with only minor edge and high spot wear overall. The stock and pump handle are both in very fine condition with 95% of the original Winchester varnish on the wood with the stock showing light pressure dents, dings and scratches on the sides from handling over the years or being in a shotgun rack. The bayonet and scabbard are both in excellent original condition. A really outstanding example of a highly desirable and very scarce WWII Model 12 Trench shotgun.
