Description:

This is just a fantastic example of an all original WWII "T3" Carbine as produced by the Winchester Company. This is the original Infrared T3 Model Carbine that was developed and produced in early/mid 1944 for use specifically with the M2 Infrared Sniper Scope. These were produced on a very limited basis with an estimated quantity of only 1000 ever produced in their own serial number range with very few surviving today as 99% of these T3 Carbines were demilitarized after WWII. The ones you do usually see are rewelded versions with an occasional original T3 Carbine like this one. These T3 Carbines were specifically designated for use with the original M2 Infrared Sniper Scope mounted on top of the carbine in an integral receiver base with the large infrared emitter lens mounted on the underside forend of the stock. These early T3 Infrared Carbines were eventually all replaced by the standard M3 Infrared Sniper scope conversion package that used a separate mounting bar fitted to the top of the receiver, whereas the "T3" model had to be used with this specific infrared scope only as there were no provisions for any rear sight. This integral scope mount forced a relocation of the model number to right rear side of the receiver. This carbine is marked on the barrel with a single "W" over a "P" firing proof. The right side of the receiver is marked: "U.S. CARBINE/CAL. 30 T3" with the heel of the receiver marked "WINCHESTER/02378". Currently this carbine is fitted with a unmarked type one Winchester pattern barrel band with the wide sling slot with the following parts all marked with the Winchester "W" stamp: parkerized flat bolt trigger guard, wide type 3 operating slide, "W" marked sear and hammer, a type IV magazine catch with the "M" marked face, a blued "II" marked push button safety. It has a late four rivet handguard with the "W" mark on the underside edge and a single "W" stamp in the sling slot of the rifle stock with a single cross-cannon cartouche on the right side. This carbine has a T3 stock with the large squared off, front bulbous forend which is fitted with a M2 infrared emitter lens and pistol grip. The T3 stock is fitted with the switch plate and screws mounted on the left side of the stock and it has been modified for the M2 selector switch. The infrared scope system is an original WWII version that is complete with the heavy poser cable, power supply and battery, along with the front infrared emitter and pistol grips. The scope and infrared system are untested and the scope body is missing the nomenclature plate. This really scarce T3 carbine is complete with two original US GI manuals TM5-9342 and TM5-9341, original field wrench and written appraisal from Larry Ruth.

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 95% original parkerized finish on the metal parts with slight finish loss on the receiver rail, edges and high spots overall. The stock and handguard are both in very fine condition with a nice dark matching color with minimal handling marks, with the stock having been sanded slightly on the top of the comb area. The power pack, battery, cables, and power cables all look to be in excellent condition with their nice original black finish, however as noted this unit has not been tested. A very nice example of a super rare Winchester T3 Carbine with the M2 Infrared Sniper Scope set up.
