Description:

This is an excellent example of a Winchester Model 1886 Takedown Lever Action Rifle chambered in the then new 33 WCF cartridge. This rifle, manufactured in 1905, features the highly desirable takedown feature, half magazine, checkered steel buttplate, and walnut straight wrist stock and forearm. The left of the barrel is roll stamped "MANUFACTURED BY THE/-WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN. CONN. U.S.A-" ahead of the rear sight mount with "NICKEL STEEL BARREL/ESPECIALLY FOR SMOKELESS POWDER" on the left rear side of the barrel in front of the takedown collar. The caliber designation "33 W.C.F." is stamped at the breech with a Winchester proof just below and on the front of the frame. It is fitted with a Lyman hunting front sight and an adjustable Lyman rear peep sight. The upper receiver tang is roll stamped "MODEL 1886/-WINCHESTER-/TRADE MARK." The lower tang is stamped with the serial number, and the patent information is obscured by the lever. The early 20th century owner hand carved records of multiple successful hunts (of animals ranging from moose to caribou) on the right side of the butt and an "M" just behind the lower tang.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The rifle retains 30% of the original finish with the finish worn to bright on the front portion of the frame and the takedown collar and various minor marks, dings, and scratches throughout. The magazine tube is refinished. The forearm and stock are good with a small chip on the lower edge of the butt and some minor dings and scratches. Mechanically excellent.
