Matching pair of closely serialized (17 numbers apart!) Colt Single Action Army revolvers engraved by Cole Agee with his distinctive cattle brand engraving on a punch-dot background. The revolvers are fully engraved with identical cattle brand designs and matching two-piece Navajo silver grips set with twenty turquoise inlays in one grip on each pistol. Both revolvers are chambered in caliber .38-40 and have 4-3/4 inch barrels. Each revolvers is accompanied by a Colt factory letter. The letter for serial number 218424 describes the features as caliber .38/40 with a 4-3/4 inch barrel and blue finish and states that it was shipped to the Simmons Hardware Company in St. Louis, Missouri, on September 26, 1901. The letter for serial number 218441 lists the features as caliber .38/40 with 4-3/4 inch barrel and blue finish and indicates that it was shipped to the Roberts, Sanford & Taylor Company in Sherman, Texas, on November 26, 1901. Both revolvers have the two-line Hartford address on the top of the barrel surrounded by an engraved banner. The caliber, "38 W.C.F." is roll-stamped on the side of each barrel and enclosed in a similar banner. The left side of each frame is roll-stamped with the Colt 'Three-Date/Two-Line' patent markings and the encircled Rampant Colt trademark. Both revolvers have matching serial numbers located on the bottom of the frame, trigger guard and back strap. Cole Agee (1901-1955) was a Texas native who spent much of his career as an engraver in Fort Worth, Texas. He developed his signature cattle brand engraving during the 1940s. One of the first pistols engraved with this design was a Colt Single Action Army revolver commissioned for the President of Mexico. Agee kept no records of the number of cattle brand engravings he executed; some authorities believe that the total may have been very few pistols. These revolvers were pictured on the covers of the August 1979 issue of GUN REPORT and the November 1980 issue of ARMS GAZETTE.

Rating Definition:

Very fine as custom embellished. The revolvers retain at least 98% of the chrome-plated finish. The engraving is deep and sharp and the Colt markings are crisp. The Turquoise inlaid Navajo silver grips are in excellent condition and all of the turquoise stones are intact. This is a rare matched pair of Cole Agee engraved Single Action Army revolvers which show-case his unique Texas cattle brand engraving.
