Marlin Ballard No. 5 Pacific Single Shot Rifle in 45-70

Manufactured from 1876 to 1891. This rifle has the distinctive features of the No. 5 Pacific Rifle include a ramrod mounted under the barrel, double set triggers and a ring shaped lever. Blade front sight with bead and a fixed notch rear sight. The left side of the receiver is marked "J M MARLIN, NEW HAVEN CONN. U.S.A./BALLARD'S. PATENT. NOV. 5, 1861." with the serial number marked on the underside of the receiver. The barrel is marked with "45 GOVT" at the breech. It has a blued barrel with remaining parts casehardened and mounted with a smooth walnut forearm and straight grip stock with a crescent buttplate. Includes a wooden ramrod.

ConditionGood. The rifle has an even brown patina overall with some marks, scratches, and oxidation. Looks like it just came out of an attic! The wood has some dings, scratches, and marks overall and there is a long hairline crack present on each side of the buttstock extending back from the reciever with a chip at the receiver juncture on the upper left. The markings are mostly clear and are all legible. The action and double set triggers are fine. A fine addition to an Old West Collection!
