Manufactured in 1939 (receiver). The carbine is chambered in 9 mm (9 x 57 Mauser, one of the scarcest calibers found in pre-64 Model 70s). According to David Whitaker in his study "THE MODEL 70 WINCHESTER 1937-1964," 9 mm Model 70 carbines have been reported but not confirmed. Hooded ramp front sight, Williams filler block in the rear sight dovetail slot and Lyman receiver sight (stock inletted). The barrel has the Winchester legend on the left side and the two-line address on the right side. Receiver tapped for scope mounting at the front, cloverleaf receiver tang, polished bolt numbered to gun and pre-war safety. The checkered straight comb pistol grip stock has sling swivels and a checkered steel buttplate.

Very fine as professionally refurbished/restored. The carbine retains 98% of the blue finish with the bolt handle thinning to a gray and a number of minor scratches on the buttplate near the top. The stock is very fine with a few scattered minor handling marks and crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent.
