Description:

Features a blade front and folding rear sight (slide adjustment absent), a patchbox, and a saddle ring and bar. It is marked "R.S. LAWRENCE/PATENTED/FEB 15th 1859" on the rear sight base. The barrel is marked "NEW MODEL 1859" near the breech end of the barrel with the Sharps address mostly faded ahead of the rear sight. The left side of the receiver is marked "SHARPS' PAT/SEPT. 12th 1848", the top tang is marked with the serial number, the right side of the lock plate is marked "R.S. LAWRENCE PAT/APRIL 12th 1859" just under the pellet primer and "C.SHARPS' PAT/OCT. 5th 1852" in the center. Many of the components have single letter sub-inspection marks. Mounted on a smooth walnut forearm and straight grip stock with a smooth slightly curved buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Fair. The carbine has an overall silver/gray patina with some minor pitting, scratches, marks, and dings with some brown patina/oxidation on the hammer, lockplate, barrel band, buttplate, saddle ring bar, and edges of the receiver. Some markings are illegible or faded. The wood is poor showing heavy wear with some scratches and dings and a repaired crack on the forearm. The action is fine.
